Swiss Post issues stamp featuring Mickey Mouse to celebrate 100 years of Disney

The final stamp issue of the year heralds wintertime: the Christmas stamps will fuel your sense of anticipation for the festive season, and the confetti stamp adds a creative splash of colour. Mickey and Minnie Mouse are creative, too. To celebrate 100 years of Disney, Swiss Post has issued stamps featuring the two cartoon characters. All the new stamps are available from today.

Who doesn’t know Mickey and Minnie Mouse, the original stars of Disney? Like many other Disney characters, the two have won the hearts of fans around the world. Walt Disney won his first Oscar for Mickey Mouse in 1932 – and 31 more followed. Disney is celebrating its 100th birthday this year. To mark the anniversary, Swiss Post has issued stamps featuring Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

Five new Christmas stamps

Swiss Post’s other new postage stamps signal the arrival of winter. There are five stamps that will bring festive cheer to any letter. They include a snow-covered village and forest animals gathered around a Christmas tree. The snow crystal theme runs through all the designs. “The snow crystal is the ideal Christmas decoration,” says Aura Naomi Schoppig Ruiz, the Vaud-based designer of the stamps. “I’ve observed how snow crystals cover the fir trees, and I imagined deer, mice and rabbits running around, happily collecting snow crystals to decorate their own Christmas tree,” she explains. Her idea won over Swiss Post staff throughout Switzerland, who chose her design in an internal vote.

Colourful confetti stamp

The confetti stamp will add a touch of colour to your envelopes: five pieces of decorative confetti each add up to the A Mail value of 1.20 francs valid from 2024 (see box). The individual bits of confetti can be combined and affixed however you wish.

New letter and parcel prices from 1 January 2024

New letter and parcel prices will apply from 1 January 2024. An A Mail letter in standard format now costs 1.20 francs (previously 1.10 francs), a B  Mail letter costs 1 franc (previously 90 centimes). The previous A and B Mail stamps remain valid and can be used to frank mail together with supplementary stamps. The supplementary stamps are available online in the Postshop and at Swiss Post branches and branches with partners.

You can find information on other designs in the current issue and details about the new stamps in the latest edition of the collector’s magazine “Focus on stampsTarget not accessible” or at swisspost.ch/stamps.
