For the first time in 14 years, a pope will step on to Swiss soil. The head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, will be welcomed in Geneva tomorrow, Thursday. The papal visit is to mark the 70th anniversary of the World Council of Churches (WCC) in Geneva. Pope Francis will be greeted by a delegation of the Federal Council and will then give a sermon and address at the WCC.

This occasion will be captured on a stamp. In the past, various postal organizations around the globe have immortalized a papal visit in this way. The centerpiece of the stamp is a depiction of Pope Francis waving in front of Geneva's distinctive and famous landmark, the “jet d’eau” fountain.

The “Pope” commemorative stamp is available from 21 June 2018 at all Swiss Post branches, as well as online at www.postshop.ch.
