Confederation recognizes IncaMail as secure delivery platform

IncaMail, Swiss Post’s secure e-mail service, has obtained definitive recognition as a secure delivery platform from the Federal Department of Justice and Police. For some years now, Swiss Post’s secure communication solution has proven valuable in the transfer of sensitive information within law firms, major corporations and authorities. The definitive recognition of IncaMail highlights Swiss Post’s digital expertise and its ambition to establish innovative products and integrated solutions for e-government and e-business.

IncaMail has obtained definitive recognition from the Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP) after thorough checks to ensure that it complies with the requirements for platforms used for the secure delivery of documents during legal procedures (list of criteria for delivery platforms). Provisional recognition as a secure delivery platform was obtained back in December 2010.

IncaMail has a diverse range of possible applications. A large number of employees already receive their salary statements via IncaMail, private customers exchange confidential information with their notary or bank, and insurance companies communicate securely with external recipients, for example. Since the beginning of 2011, national and cantonal authorities and courts have been obliged to accept documents submitted via recognized secure mail services for civil, criminal and many other proceedings. Authorities that utilize IncaMail include courts, the canton of Geneva (e.g. for sending tax assessments) as well as the regional employment agencies (RAV) of the cantons of Aargau, Basel, Solothurn, Zurich and Geneva.

IncaMail uses patented SAFE technology (Secured Attached File Encryption) for encrypted delivery by e-mail. Anyone with an e-mail address can be contacted, and can open the encrypted message immediately online, without any additional technical requirements. When documents are transferred electronically to authorities and courts, they must bear the recognized electronic signature of the sender. Swiss Post’s range of products includes SuisseID for electronic signatures.

The definitive recognition of IncaMail as a secure delivery platform highlights Swiss Post’s digital expertise and its ambition to establish electronic postal solutions not only with authorities, but also in the private sector. Further examples of this commitment can be seen in other products available to authorities such as vivates – Swiss Post’s eHealth platform – or its service for electronic elections and votes (e-voting).
