Extremely punctual letter and parcel deliveries

In 2012, Swiss Post again achieved very high on-time delivery rates for letters and parcels. With a score of 97.9 percent, Swiss Post exceeded last year's results for A Mail letters, and the rate for B Mail letters too remained very high at 98.8 percent. Swiss Post also achieved very good results for parcels: in 2012, 97.7 percent of all PostPac Priority and 97.9 percent of all PostPac Economy parcels arrived as scheduled. The scores achieved exceed the requirements of the strategic goals set by the Federal Council.

Swiss Post processed 2.3 billion addressed letters last year. 97.9 percent of all A Mail letters were delivered on time (2011: 97.5 percent), the corresponding score for B Mail letters was 98.8 percent (2011: 99.3 percent). By investing in state-of-the-art technology and staff training, Swiss Post aims to ensure the reliability of the physical letter in the future too, whilst providing best possible quality at a fair price. Swiss Post is therefore gradually introducing automatic sequencing systems to improve letter processing efficiency. As part of its ongoing improvement processes, Swiss Post is specifically focusing on methods that integrate the expertise of the staff involved.

High standards in parcel processing

Swiss Post processed more than 100 million parcels last year, exceeding the high quality scores from the previous year. In 2012, 97.7 percent of all PostPac Priority parcels were delivered to the recipient in time on the following day (2011: 97.4 percent). For Economy parcels, Swiss Post delivered 97.9 percent of all items on time (2011: 97.7 percent). These scores confirm that the technologies used at Swiss Post’s parcel centres are amongst the most reliable and modern in the industry.

Highest delivery time requirements internationally

With these excellent results obtained again this year, Swiss Post ranks amongst the top performers by international comparison when it comes to delivery time. The scores achieved exceed the requirements of the strategic goals set by the Federal Council. Since the new postal legislation has come into force in October 2012, new regulations with regard to delivery time requirements have been introduced as set out in the postal ordinance. According to these legal requirements, 97 percent of all letters and 95 percent of all parcels must be delivered on time within Switzerland. This makes them the strictest in Europe.

Some 80,000 letters are sent every year to measure the delivery times of domestic letters. The measurements are conducted by the independent market research institute GfK Switzerland AG based on European standards. In 2013, modern RFID technology will be used for the first time.  This radio technology permits even more precise monitoring of the process chain and aims to achieve continuous improvements in letter processing reliability. A scientifically recognised sampling method is applied for the measurement of parcel delivery times. Another independent company, Consult AG, is responsible for monitoring these measurements.
